Once the RAM is upgraded on the machine to above 16MB, then the system runs well with NT4. The only problem arises with the soundcard - although drivers should be available.

Upgraded RC1 to 2 - All devices running fine
No Compaq Drivers were required for RC1 and higher. Have NOT tested the
Programmable Keys software yet though.
Properly detects ACPI as well.

If you want to still use the modem, download and extract Service Pack 8897, but don't install the drivers. Run Windows 2000 setup like usual. Setup will tell you it may have trouble with your modem. When asked if you have updated files/drivers, point setup to the directory in which you extracted the service pack. Voila, the modem disappears from the list of troublesome hardware.

Received the follow messages:
1) Windows 2000 Professional will install on the laptop, only that you will be missing a few device drivers. The video will work fine, but you need to download the latest softpaq for the modem/NIC, sound, and floppy. The NEC USB floppy driver and VIA sound drivers are WDM, so they will install flawlessly under Windows 2000, even they are written for Windows 98. For the modem/NIC driver, search around the Compaq Presario Notebook Communities and find out the correct softpaq # for it. Other notes: the onboard Trident video adapter is recognized, but to restore the S-video and external video out you need to force the Trident 3D Blade driver for Windows 2000 from Trident. 988_W2K.exe However the external video out can only display in clone mode, instead of multiple displays like it is in Windows 98.
2) A result was submitted regarding the same model of laptop by me, and now this is the update: Windows 2000 Professional will install drivers for Trident Cyberblade video automatically. I have installed Windows 2000 on the Presario 17XL362 and have found Win2k drivers for everything but the FutureBay and the integrated volume buttons at the top of the keyboard. The FutureBay driver is not required, if you can live with swapping the DVD and floppy when the notebook is powered off. You have to find the SSD - Compaq Support Paq for Microsoft Windows 2000, after you've gotten it install with all options, it will only install what needs to be installed for the device. You also need the Compaq Array Configuration Utility to setup the arrays in Windows.

You must install SP2 to prevent AGP speed problems and DirectX Failures. The drivers for Trident i7 that come with W2K seem to have a memory problem after being hammered for a while, but so do all the others+Win98 (Possible hardware problem)
Via 4in1 may also be needed depending on what to attach to your PC. Note that both LCD panel and external Monitor display the same screens under win2k, no more duel desktop facility (But who uses that on this PC anyway!)

Need to update with SP1 and a latest Agere driver from the XP update site. Using in adhoc mode tick use windows to config box. Leave main IP as auto, put your manual IP address in the alternative IP area. Worked for me.

I'm running W2K (orig + SP1) on a compaq 7370 DMT notebook. All is fine (both with and without the Compaq BIOS update). However DO NOT ENABLE POWER MANAGEMENT SUPPORT! After doing this the keyboard and mouse will be completely dead. I tried repairing the W2K install with no luck (i did not have an ERD). Even booting in safe mode did not work. The only way I found to fix was reinstalling W2K.

Received the follow messages: 1) (500mhz, 64mg ram, DVD) Works great with RTM code. Haven't tested modem. Internal Ethernet works great as well. Much faster than 98. ATI Rage LT Pro graphics driver work well enough to run Nascar 3/NHL 2000.
2) Everything works except for modem audio. Rumor has it a bios upgrade is needed, but the modem works fine.... except for audio.
